Hoa Lo Prison museum
Historical & Cultural Vestiges Hanoi scenic Landscapes Hanoi Sports and Entertainments

Originally, Hanoi Hilton is built during the time of French in 1896. The purpose behind such a construction was to keep the communist prisoners. The original name of Hanoi Hilton is Maison Central which is originated from French. Hanoi Hilton is built in Hanoi and located in 1 Hoa Lo Street near Hanoi Towers and it opens from 8.30 am till 11.30am, and from 1.30pm till 4.30pm. You can contact the officer there via telephone number (+84) 34824 6358 for more information.

In fact the prison is used to be referred as Hoa Loa Prison ‘Fiery Furnance’. But such a name has changed to American Prisoners of the Vietnam War as Hanoi Hilton. In addition, most of the American Prisoners used to be kept here including Pete Peterson, the first ambassador to Vietnam.

Nowadays Hanoi Hilton is switched to be as a museum welcoming new faces regularly to view the originality of the prison in details. The main entrance of Hanoi Hilton pictures the way as a small and a dark place occupied by the presence of rats. Such a detailed description shows how scary the life of the prison was.

As you go in, you would start to view the complete shape of the prison which is occupied by rooms everywhere. Such rooms are used to be the sleeping places for the prisoners, and it is also referred to be as the ‘blue rooms’.
According to the history of Hanoi Hilton; the atmosphere of the rooms seems to be built comfortably with no means of torturing at all. But such details seem to be viewed differently from the prisoners’ point of views; as the prisoners mentioned that, the prison is such a dramatic act of torture.
In Hanoi Hilton, you would also get to see most of John McCain’s belongings. As viewing such items give you an inner connection with such well-known people. Viewing their memorable belongings give you a clear idea of how their life was during that time.
Interestingly, in Hanoi Hilton, you would also get the chance to see some of the torturing and killing instruments which have been used by the French with their communist prisoners in Hanoi Hilton. It is so touchy to get connected with such instruments as it helps you to understand how badly the communist prisoners were tortured.
Visiting Hanoi Hilton is really worthy as it reflects upon the history that dates back to centuries ago. One more thing to be remembered is that, the history of Hanoi Hilton has actually been screened in Hollywood around 1987. Screening such a history would definitely give you a complete idea about the prisoners’ life in Hanoi during the war time

Hanoi has shaken off its once hostile attitude to travellers to become one of the most beguiling cities in Southeast Asia. It's slow-paced yet quick to charm, with a lovely landscape of lakes, shaded boulevards, verdant public parks and French-colonial architecture.

Hanoi personifies the spirit of historic Vietnam in the temples, monuments and pockets of ancient culture along the narrow streets of the Old Quarter, yet perfectly reflects the rapid changes sweeping the country as Hanoian yuppies sip cappucinos in roadside cafés and compare cell phones.
